Ages Pre-Primary to Grade 12
History Established in 1954, by the KwaZulu-Natal Blind & Deaf Society at Lorne Street as the Arthur Blaxall School for the Blind.

Increased Learner intake necessitated a move to larger premises. Hence the move to Mountain Rise, Pietermaritzburg in 1968. To receive Departmental
funding, the School was forced to change its name to NEW HORIZON SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND as the Reverend Arthur Blaxall, who founded both the South African National Council for the Blind and Deaf, was exiled because of political beliefs.

On democratization, the name was reinstated to ARTHUR BLAXALL SCHOOL on 23/03/1996 at a prestigious function, with the Reverend Desmond Tutu [who had links with Reverend Arthur Blaxall], being the Guest of Honour.

On the 04 October 2004, the School
commemorated its Golden Anniversary. Today the School is regarded as THE Leader in the field of Education for Learners with Special Education
Needs. Since 1997 it has been rated by The Sunday Times as one of the top 100 Schools in South Africa. It is well known Nationally & Internationally
