Cedarwood School is a full
service school which caters for children with mild to
moderate learning support needs. In each grade there is
capacity for 2 children with higher support needs, who
may or may not require individual facilitation within
the classroom. There is also capacity for 1-2 top range
learners who would cope in mainstream, but could benefit
from a more supportive environment. The school provides
mostly for children with learning disabilities. There is
also facilities for children with a variety of
conditions such as Asperger's Syndrome and Cerebral
Palsy, but as the curriculum conforms to the mainstream
curriculum we are not able to cater for children with
intellectual disability.
The
school values the strengths of each child and promotes
sports such as horse riding, playball, swimming, soccer
and netball. Art, pottery, music, drama and other
cultural activities are integrated into the learning
program.
There are private and in
house therapy available at the school for integration of
therapy programs into the child's IDP and the classroom
environment. These include: Speech Therapy, Psychology,
Remedial Therapy, Occupational Therapy and
Physiotherapy.
The teachers are all trained in
the THRASS system, and from 2006 this approach will be
integrated with other teaching styles in grade 0.
Teachers in higher grades will integrate this program
where children come form schools who have taught THRASS. |
